Windy City Ramblers

The Windy City Ramblers bring the vibrant spirit of Brass Band music and Second Line culture to life through the distinctive musical voice of Chicago. Rooted in the celebratory traditions of New Orleans and shaped by Chicago’s rich legacy of jazz, blues, gospel, and soul, the Ramblers deliver an energetic blend of powerful horns, driving rhythms, improvisation, and undeniable groove. Led by trumpeter and bandleader Mario Abney, who spent 15 years immersed in the New Orleans music scene, the Windy City Ramblers draw from a collective of more than 30 accomplished Chicago musicians, including exceptional instrumentalists and dynamic bandleaders. This depth allows the Ramblers to create outstanding ensembles while maintaining the energy, musicianship, and spirit that define every performance. Beyond the stage, The Chicago Windy City Ramblers are a nonprofit organization committed to preserving Brass Band and Second Line traditions while inspiring the next generation. Through youth education, mentorship, workshops, and hands-on performance experiences, they encourage musicianship, confidence, creativity, professionalism, and cultural awareness. At the heart of every Windy City Ramblers performance is the spirit of the Second Line — music that brings people together, invites them to move, and turns every performance into a celebration.
