Southside born and raised, Nate Carter (Jivefresh) is a discerning selector with over 17 years in the game. A mainstay of intimate speakeasies and festival stages, he credits OGs like DJ Cease, Johnny Price, Mike Love and Derrick Carter for his ongoing journey. His #ModernVintage sound aspires to the energy of a basement house party. While saving space for artists like Anderson.Paak and Kaytranada, he blends a 70s-90s aesthetic of funk, boogie, boom bap, and house. A Jivefresh set is open-format, curated live, and intended to bridge the last 50 years of soul. In 2018, Nate launched Sounds Like Fun, a curation initiative pairing ethical venues with a roster of 60+ Chicago-rooted DJs. He has directed music for clients like BPM Music Group and Salesforce, and anchored Logan Square's longest-running monthly event from 2017-2025. His residency at Punch House has been a fixture since 2021.
