KATANA

KATANA is an Auckland-based DJ and event curator with over two decades of experience. Originally from Japan, he moved to New Zealand in the late ’90s and has been part of the local music community ever since. Starting in open-format, hip-hop and R&B, he has grown into a versatile DJ known for reading the room and adapting across different settings — from laid-back bars to club nights. His sets focus on flow, energy, and keeping people engaged on the dancefloor. He is the founder of BASSMENT, a long-running event series supporting local artists and contributing to Auckland’s club culture. After years in the scene, KATANA is now stepping back into open-format and club spaces with a fresh perspective and a strong focus on reading the room and building the right vibe.
