Sikander

Sikander, the alias of Pradip Sarkar, is a Naarm/Melbourne-based DJ/producer, academic, journalist, and host of the iconic South Asian independent music show Tiger Beats Elephant Grooves on PBS FM. Born in Kolkata, with a childhood spent in Southeast Asia and West Africa, his sound reflects a life lived across cultures— rich in rhythm, texture, and groove. With a DJ practice that spans over two decades, Pradip's curation and playlists are informed by years of exploration of Global musical hybrids. In his hybrid sets, Sikander weaves together psychedelic funk, cosmic disco, tropical synths, and groove-laden oddities from Asia, Africa, and beyond layering in live edits and reworks of forgotten sonic treasures. The result is a genre-spanning journey through rhythm and dance music history, built for listeners who want to hear the world's grooves in conversation with one another.
