Matthew Flattley

Matthew Flattley is a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist and composer who has spent over 25 years mastering diverse musical genres from African funk to flamenco, jazz funk to reggae. Beginning his professional journey at just 11 years old alongside renowned Sebastian Jorgensen, Matthew has performed internationally across major venues and festivals, appeared on television, and collaborated with notable artists including Alanis Morissette, Tim Minchin, and Carl Cox. As founder and creative director of Lygon Music School since 2008, he has mentored thousands of students and worked with Australia's finest musicians. Matthew's innovative spirit shines through groundbreaking projects like Rainbow Tribe, his 12-piece African funk ensemble, and Blood Brothers, which brilliantly fuses African and Western grooves. A VCA/Melbourne University music graduate currently completing a Master's in Specialist Music Teaching, Matthew extends his artistry beyond live performance into film, animation, and dance composition.
