Eric Downer

With more than three decades behind the decks, Eric Downer’s story follows the evolution of underground electronic music. From the radio waves and warehouse raves of early-90s Ontario, Canada to clubs, festivals, and off-grid parties, his sets have always carried a certain raw honesty, equal parts soul, sweat, and machinistic pulse. Eric’s roots trace back to the early 90’s in Kitchener, Ontario, just a short drive from Detroit’s techno crucible. Later, moving to London, Ontario and working in a leading record store there, he became a vital connector between artists, labels, and DJs, pushing fresh sounds from Detroit, Chicago, Berlin, and Toronto into the hands of those shaping the scene. Eventually landing in Toronto, over the years, Eric’s sound has stretched across deep house, techno, minimal, and ambient, settling into a distinct, genre-agnostic space that infects mind, body & soul. After relocating to Australia, he’s continued to host and play events while putting in time selling vinyl at Bangalow’s Flo Records. On the airwaves Downer curates Sound Streams—his long-running show on Byron Bay’s 99.9 Bay FM, dedicated to boundary-pushing electronic music from around the world.
